“Your 20’s are your ‘selfish’ years. It’s a decade to immerse yourself in every single thing possible. Be selfish with your time, and all the aspects of you. Tinker with shit, travel, explore, love a lot, love a little, and never touch the ground.”
― Kyoko Escamilla
Yes, After I hit 20 about a month ago this quote hit me like a wave. I’ve realized we often put so much effort into maintaining our relationship with others but we forget the most important relationship that we have with ourselves. So as you read on, think about you for some time. The promises that you made to yourself when you were little, the values that you want to stand up for until you are old, and most importantly the dreams that you hold on for life. These are the things that define an individual. These are the things that make you “YOU” and me “ME”.
But sometimes in the rush of adulthood, we break those promises, blow up those values, or leave our dreams unfulfilled. We slowly start drifting away from the things that actually define us. We change for either people or for opportunities or things we want to hold on, forgetting the simple truth that these things came to us because of what we were in the first place.
But we all know Change is inevitable. It is a necessary factor of life and in fact, change is what leads to growth. As you grow up you will realize that some of the things you value are not healthy, and instead of pushing you up in life and making you a better person, these values push you away from a lot of people you love and some of the best opportunities. Then you should be ready to give them up, even though you have been believing them since your existence.
After all, the beauty of life is all about finding that right balance. Embrace the change that is natural and that comes for the right reasons but still, hold on to the things that have been part of you and your life.
The purpose of this post wasn’t to impose our opinions. It was a mere attempt to make you think about you for some time. Please let us know your views in the comment section. After all, we are 20 somethings, still trying to figure out life as it comes.
